Who we are

Our website address is: https://thekarmabazaar.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

If you participate in our bazaars by filling in the donate or request forms linked from our bazaar pages, we collect the following personal information:

    • Email address. The karma you earn and spend is associated with your email address. Your email address also helps us identify participants in the bazaar and we use this information to help us match people who donate with people who receive.
    • Your Facebook name. To participate in the bazaar you have to join our Facebook group where matches are announced. We store your Facebook profile name and use it to announce matches in the group.
    • Your postcode. When you make a donation or request you give us your 4-digit postcode. 4-digit postcodes in Amsterdam identify a general area, and not a specific address. We use these postcodes to implement our automatic location matching where we try and find the item you want as close to you as possible.

If you choose to subscribe to our mailing list, that also results in us storing your email address and using it to send you new blog posts and announcements about new KarmaBazaar features.

This website uses the Privacy Suite for WordPress by Complianz to collect and record Browser and Device-based Consent. For this functionality, your IP address is anonymized and stored in our database. This service does not process any personally identifiable information and does not share any data with the service provider. For more information, see the Complianz Privacy Statement.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on a blog article on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

    • Email address: We do not share your email address with anyone.
    • Your Facebook name: We use this only in the Karmabazaar Facebook group you joined to notify you of matches.
    • Your postcode: We do not share this information with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

We store your email address, Facebook name and postcode indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also email us at admin@thekarmabazaar.com to request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
